Goodwill

Serving the People of Southern Los Angeles County

Goodwill serves 22 cities and communities in Southern Los Angeles County and issues more than 7,800 paychecks annually.

Our skills training, education, job preparation and placements programs build lives, families and communities - one job at a time. Placing individuals in productive and competitive employment fills them with the value, joy and dignity of a paycheck We believe that putting people to work not only benefits the individual but benefits the communities’ economic vitality as well through taxes, spending power, real estate values, quality of life and relief to social services and welfare systems.

Goodwill Long Beach and South Bay is a tax-exempt organization qualified under Internal Revenue code section 501(c) (3).

A Resource to the Community

Goodwill was established in 1929 in response to the great depression, which brought an increased focus to the thousands of people out of work and to people with disabilities. In 1945 Goodwill Long Beach and South Bay Inc. responded to GI's returning from World War II to train, find jobs and assimilate back into a peacetime economy.

Our heritage dates back almost 100 years to 1902 when the Reverend Edger J. Helms placed into action his vision of helping people transition from dependency to self sufficiency through work and career development services. Reverend Helms prayed that God's "finger prints" would always be on the work of Goodwill.

Goodwill shares this vision and takes our programs and services to the community, where the need is the greatest. We form alliances with like organizations to offer services to help people find work and retain their jobs.

Our main facility located at 800 W Pacific Coast Highway houses our administrative offices, training programs, processing operations, transportation fleet, LiNKS - sign language interpreting services - and a retail store.

In the US and Canada, there are 207 independent community-based organizations and 22 in other countries that are linked in our membership to Goodwill Industries International
