Goodwill of Long Beach and the South Bay, has served the southern Los Angeles County community for more than 77 years by educating, training and placing people with barriers to employment in order to help them achieve economic, social and personal independence. The Goodwill People Works program considers the quality-of-life factors for each person served, backed by the belief that all individuals should be empowered to find and keep meaningful employment and inclusion into their community. People Works is a job training, job placement, and job retention program for people with minimum work history, low-income, disabilities or other barriers to employment. People Works currently provides services throughout southern Los Angeles County.
The People Works program:
- Emphasizes a commitment to matching good employees with good jobs
- Works closely with each individual employer to understand the employer's unique business challenges
- Tailors employee training, job placement and post-employment services to meet the specific needs of the employer
- Assists participating employers in determining eligibility for tax credits
- Provides on-going support to both the employer and the new employee to assure long-term success
Why People Works?
People Works offers businesses a strong and diverse pool of individuals who are eager for the opportunity to work. These individuals are dedicated, results-oriented and equipped with the skills needed to succeed in today's workplace.
The prospective employees come from all walks of life - older workers, welfare recipients, persons with physical disabilities, workers in need of new skills to remain competitive in today's workplace, or people with other barriers to employment. They need jobs that will allow them to become productive and performance-oriented members of the workforce.
The People Works staff maintain contact with both the employee and the employer at 30 day, 60 day, 90 day, 120 day, and 180 day intervals to assure the employee job retention and to provide any additional supports necessary. More frequent contact may be offered at the request of the employee or the employer. The People Works services are offered at no charge to the employer.
